Interview With Colourscape

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Kel and Adam of Colourscape.  Please check out their stunning photography!

Tell me a little about yourself:

We are Kel (the day to day CEO ;)) and Adam, and we call Brisbane, Australia home. We're both in our 30's and have a (nearly) 6 month old girl, Stephie, and our 7 year old cat, Shelly. I'm the stay at home mum now after having worked 16 years in big box retail. Adam is an Industrial Designer, and has worked on things from packaging and power switches to metal and mine detectors.

How did you get started with your craft?

Adam has been shooting for over 10 years and that's actually how we met.. on an international (now worldwide) art community. I stumbled across his wonderful work and we got chatting... the rest is history ;) I always had a love of photography but wasn't all that good at it, but the 8 years he's been teaching me, and I think I'm getting a bit better at it now!

What are your favorite materials to work with/favorite mediums?

We both shoot with Nikon D300's which are perfect for every occasion. We both have our old film camera's to play with as well. I have fun with my Polaroid and his Holga, while Adam plays with his russian Horizon panoramic camera.

What inspires you?

We both have different inspirations which you can see through the shop. I love flowers, the macro world in general, and sunsets. He's more inclined to shoot the architectural, streetscape and landscapes.

What do you enjoy doing in your off time?

Wandering markets and exploring new places. Having just moved interstate to where I grew up, Adam has many many places he wants to explore!

What 3 items are your favorite and why?

This is my favourite, we were so blessed the night we went to shoot this sunset. Mother Nature put on an amazing show! The series from this night is all natural, no tweaking in editing software.

This is Adam's favourite... he was so happy when he stumbled across this truck along one of the main roads out of Adelaide and was waiting for awhile to get the right clouds behind it :D

Our joint favourite. In 2009 we took an epic 3 weeks road trip from Adelaide to the Whitsunday Islands... a 6782km (4214 miles) round trip. This was our reward!

Do you have a favorite buyer experience? A moment when your worked touched another?

We were lucky enough to be asked to do a custom piece for a wonderful woman purchasing a gift for a friend who's partner had just passed. It turned out beautifully, and everyone involved was pleased with the end result.

Do you have any advice for other Etsy sellers?

Patience, sales don't just land in your lap. You've gotta work hard and show your work off to everyone you can!

Where can we find you on the web:

We're on twitter at

We also have a second shop on Etsy selling Modern Typography and Illustrations at which has only just opened :)
