A Walk In The Woods

A walk in the woods today.  I made five laps each time taking in different pieces of nature.  Each lap I made I noticed something I had not noticed before.  I tried to take in the different senses.  The brush underfoot, sometimes mossy and soft and other times crunchy.  Leaves rustling, birds chirping, the wind blowing through the trees.  The smell of the damp moss, the richness of the dirt.  And above all else the beauty and serenity of nature.

From The Work Bench

I came across some beautiful antique chandelier crystals at an antique store in RI.  I unfortunately had left my purse behind and had to go back later in the week.  They had red, blue, green and clear.  They were out of the green when I returned.  It was such a lovely color but I will keep checking back.  I've wanted to work with these for a long time and was excited when I found them.  The first pendant is ready for a chain.  Since these will be a limited piece I can't help but keep one for myself.

One Week The Movie

Once in a great while you will see a movie (or a book made into a movie) that tugs at your heart strings, that reminds you of things that you know that somehow with the noise of life you have forgotten.  One Week is one of those movies.  It stars Joshua Jackson who I love.  He is also in Fringe which happens to be one of my favorite shows.  He plays Ben Tyler a man with stage four cancer.  It is not about his battle with cancer, cancer is a side line to the fact that what is most important in life becomes much more clear when you are faced with the possibility of death.  It is not even relevant whether he lives or dies because the story is about living, and about life, and what matters.  How many of us are living but dying inside because we aren't REALLY living?  Many of us go through the motions, the daily grind, the rat race, living life for what we are told it should be.  The things we need to or are expected to do.  For many it takes a cataclysmic event to jolt us out the fog that is this monotonous journey.  To get us to see that so much of what we believe to be life is just a distraction.  Maybe life isn’t about finding that perfect someone and living life happily ever after.  Maybe it is about moments.  Meeting a stranger and connecting on a spiritual level with another human being just for the moment.  Appreciation of nature.  Daybreak when the dew is in the grass and all is silent and peaceful.  The sun peaking over the horizon and the crickets chirping.  Life is what you make it.  There are no rules, you make your own rules about how you will live your life and what you will make of it.  You never know how long something will last.  Don't force yourself to be what you are not or feel what you think you should.  Appreciate love in whatever form it comes to you be it another person, an animal, in nature, in the innocence of a child.  Try not to let the noise overshadow the truth of why we are here.  Only love is real, everything else is a distraction.  Yes, the life I have lived allows me to take more from pieces such as this that others may not see.  But for good or for bad, for THAT I am thankful.

This quote from the movie sums it up perfectly  “When you get those rare moments of clarity,  those flashes when the universe makes sense you try desperately to hold onto them.  They are the lifeboats for the darker times when the vastness of it all, the incomprehensible nature of life is completely elusive.  So the question becomes, or should’ve been all along what would you do if you knew you only had one day, or one week, or one month to live?  What lifeboat would you grab onto?  What secret would you tell?  What band would you see?  What person would you declare your love to?  What wish would you fulfill?  What exotic locale would you fly to for coffee?  What book would your write?”
